Downtown parking can be pricey. It was particularly pricey for the North Carolina Department of Transportation after a New Hanover County jury awarded $1.2 million in compensation to the owner of a Wilmington shopping complex that will lose about 50 parking spaces due to a road widening. The verdict is almost $1 million more than the state was offering for taking just over a fifth of an acre.
